The Books I Didn’t Finish

I almost never leave a book unfinished. My logic is that if I have already committed to reading 100 pages I may as well just continue even if I’m not enjoying it because maybe it will get better; this has only worked out once with Life of Pi. I have been told that as I get older I’ll do this less and less because I won’t want to waste time on books I don’t enjoy but for now I thought I would dedicate some words to those books I didn’t finish, I may have given up on them but I’m sure they are someone’s favourites.

I can finally tell you all…

I know I teased you all with a big announcement last week and then I was unable to tell you but now I can! About a month ago I saw a call for submissions for a new literary magazine, called Salomé, for emerging female writers. Serendipitously, I had a piece of short fiction that I worked on whilst at university and had recently revisited to fine tune it. Being quite proud of this small piece of work, I sent it in for consideration because there was the promise of receiving feedback regardless of whether you were selected or not and I wanted to know if my writing was going in a good direction.

My Big Announcement… it’s coming, I promise

Okay, I got some really exciting news on Monday night and I am dying to tell everyone but alas, I cannot spill the beans just yet. All I will say right now is that I have been working very hard over the past month to not just keep up with posting on this blog twice a week and adding more words to my novel but also working on new pieces of fiction as well as articles to submit to magazines and websites. The hard work seems to have paid off a little and I am feeling even more driven to keep creating new content, so to celebrate this until I can actually tell you all what will be happening in the next month, I’m giving you a little snippet of new novel-writing to read. I hope you like it and can wait a little longer to hear about all the exciting stuff! Continue reading My Big Announcement… it’s coming, I promise

Writing Wednesday: A New Addition

Welcome to a new segment (what else do I call a weekly section of my blog?) where I’ll be attempting to post something every Wednesday! The general idea of this is so I can share a bit of my writing, talk about what I’m currently working on and also as a place to express my opinions about certain topics relating to writing and looking for a career in the industry. My Year in Books

Every year I set myself the challenge of reading fifty-two books in a year and although I’m nowhere near close to achieving that, every year I do edge a little closer. This year, I have read thirty-six books and I was very much on track until I decided to move to another country and then life got in the way. However, thirty-six is still a good number and this year (as I have now finished my degree) I’ve had a lot more freedom to read books I actually want to read, which is something that hasn’t been a possibility since I started studying English Literature properly at fifteen. To anyone who knows me, they know I love books and rarely go anywhere without one in my bag. My personal library grows substantially every year and is one of the few material things I truly treasure – although I’d like to think I’m not stingy when lending my books to others. So, now I have sufficiently gushed about my love of reading here are some of the highlights of my 2016 in books, enjoy!
